How to talk with God (pray)

By Pastor Abel Vidal

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.-
Mattew 6:9-13 (KJV)

Sometimes we think it is difficult to talk to God, that we should be the most perfect for him to listen to us or that just by going to church he will hear us.

The Bible teaches that God wants to listen to us, wants us to converse with him, that we have confidence to approach him and have a true relationship with him through Jesus Christ, his Son.

The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ taught a model of how we should pray, not so that we repeat it again and again, but rather as a scheme, a design, a pattern to teach us to talk with God.

So, how to talk to God ?:

First: Worship God (Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name
We adore God because he is God, because he is holy, he is good, he is our creator and much more. We must meditate and think about the reasons we have to adore him, to thank him, to exalt him. This is the first thing we must do when we approach God.

Second: Seek the will of God in your life (10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.)
The kingdom of God must be in our lives, it is his direction through his Holy Spirit in us, it is doing what he wants and not what we like. Here we recognize that the will of God is done in the whole universe, in heaven and on earth, in the same way we must seek his will for our life.

Third: Ask for what you need (11 Give us this day our daily bread.)
Many times the first thing we do is ask, but Jesus put it in third place. God wants us to ask him for what we need, Jesus taught that we should ask for what we need in his name and God will give it to us. Whatever you need, what you need, God the Heavenly Father will provide, when you ask him with faith in the name of his son Jesus.

Fourth: Ask forgiveness and forgive (12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.)
You must recognize that you are a sinner, confess those sins before God and repent of them, Jesus will take away your sins and cleanse you. When we ask God's forgiveness for our sins, our soul has rest and peace.
If you received forgiveness, you must forgive those who have offended, humiliated or mistreated you. Jesus wants to remove the burden of the grudge of your heart.

Fifth: Ask for their help (13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil)
Before seeking help in any human environment, ask for help, God's intervention in your life. Jesus wants to work miracles in your life, but he must be your choice, your refuge.

Sixth: Worship more God (For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen)
Jesus returns to worship his Heavenly Father and teaches us that the main thing that God expects from us is our adoration, that we recognize him as Lord of our life. He does not need us to worship him, we are the ones who need to worship him.
